Each Mother’s Day looks a bit different for everyone, but one thing is certain: Motherhood can take many forms and touch us in ways we’d never expect. As the holiday approaches every year, we contemplate the ways in which it’s colored our lives. From expressing gratitude to the mom or motherly figures who inspire us, to mixed emotions that others may not understand, it’s a day that inspires thoughtful introspection year after year. And for good reason.
While receiving gifts is how many feel love (which means crowd-pleasing gift sets are aplenty), it’s also a day to celebrate the women who’ve raised us with words of affirmation. We went into our Profile archives to share how Rosie and our inspiring community muse about motherhood, including treasured pieces of advice, gentle self-care reminders and inspiring tidbits to hold dear. Read on for more.
“Being a mom has taken priority for me — how I show up, not only for my son but for myself — and making sure that I'm being present and intentional every day.”

“When I look at my mother and some of the other older women in my life, I am amazed by how wise and gorgeous a grown woman looks. Wrinkles, to me, are a form of growth in our lives. A gentle reminder in our tiny existence that we’ve spent our youngest years smiling, laughing, crying, and truly living.”

“My mother and my grandmother have always been beautiful pillars in my life. They are both super strong women. My grandmother was a lawyer and my mother is a physician. It was amazing seeing them in positions where you didn’t always see Black women… They kept pushing, defying the odds.”

“Sometimes it’s just not realistic to be hard on yourself when you don’t achieve something, so I’m working on that. My son is really good at reminding me of that; he reminds me to go out and do something for myself when I’m stressed.”

“I feel very beautiful pregnant. It’s very empowering. Sometimes I just find myself sitting with my daughter in my lap with this huge belly that has appeared now at six months. And I'm just in awe. My body did this. That's incredible.”
