Welcome back to Artist in Residency, our longtime series that brings the industry's most innovative makeup artists to Rose Inc. for a month of creativity and inspiration. Each season, you'll discover an original tutorial series — and the story behind it — created by an artist we love.
In a first for this series, London-based makeup artist Anete Salinieka is returning to Rose Inc for another month of inspiration. You may recall her 2021 tutorial series — a can’t-look-away reimagining of retro makeup — but kicking off our seasonal AiR reboot, she’s flexing a different creative muscle. Subtle and sophisticated, but not without striking details she’s known for, the looks she created are a high/low vision just in time for summertime garden parties, nights out, and everything in-between.
Primarily inspired by ‘60s and ‘80s makeup, the burgeoning artist sources inspiration from all mediums. “Aside from drawing inspiration or referencing already existing beauty moments, I often look at other types of art, such as painting or sculpture or even music,” Anete says. “These sources can transform into new ideas, whether it’s a color combo or simply a feeling, that then transform into a beauty look.”
An expert at shade selection and blending, each step of Anete’s tutorials is given the reverence it deserves, which allows small artistic secrets she’s learned through the years to become your everyday protocols through her detailed explanations. But beyond makeup, Anete also independently photographed, styled and modeled through the forthcoming editorials, a small taste at her artistic prowess. It’s for these reasons and more we are delighted to welcome Anete back to Rose Inc for her second Artist in Residency.

Anete has been feeling especially drawn to bold, multicolored accents this summer — and translated to the face, it can take on unexpected forms. “Maybe it’s the Euphoria effect?” she wonders. By pairing tropical corals, oranges and pinks with subtle highlighter and warm bronzer, it’s a soft, universally-flattering take on vacation makeup. Punctuated with a bold, of-the-moment lash, the look is versatile and the techniques (whether affixing subtle or bold lashes) seeks to inspire.
“I like to use niacinamide to prep my skin whenever I feel the need to regulate oil or minimize any pores,” Anete says, noting she used Beauty Pie Superdrops Niacinamide 10% to start her second look, then it was straight to a tinted, hydrating veil. “I added a few pumps of Rose Inc Skin Enhance Luminous Tinted Serum in shade 040 on my hand and applied it with the Number 3 Foundation Brush by distributing the product evenly on my skin.”
To achieve a lightweight, sculpted base, Anete strategically dotted three shades of Rose Inc Softlight Luminous Hydrating Concealer over her face before blending. “I used shade 080 as my foundation, brightened the under eyes with the shade 030, and brightened the cheekbones and brow bone with 020.”
“Since my brows are not as bushy as I’d like them to be, I love using a brow gel,” Anete says. “I use Brow Renew Tinted Shaping Gel in Fill 02 and do at least two to three coats by going in a back and forth direction.”
Lashes came next. “I used the DUO Brush-On Striplash Adhesive and applied the lashes as close as possible to the natural lash line,” she says about the custom set. “Once the lashes are on, it is easier to decide on which shades will fit best to complement the eyes, and nicely balance out the entire look.”
“I wanted to use a highlighter that gives me a healthy, cool pink glow but without too much glitter,” Anete says. “For that I found the Rose Inc Solar Radiance Hydrating Cream Highlighter in Opalescent to be perfect! I highlighted my cheekbones and eyelids by using the Number 6 Highlighter Brush. Then, by using my finger, I added an extra highlight in the inner corners of my eyes and down the bridge of my nose.”
She then warmed up her complexion with Rose Inc Solar Infusion Soft-Focus Cream Bronzer in Kauai. “Since I wanted to keep my complexion for this look light and subtle, I used a light bronzer shade to contour my face by using Number 5 Bronzer Brush,” she adds. Blush Divine Radiant Lip & Cheek Color in Heliotrope finished the face. “I first applied it near my temples and blended it downwards with the Number 2 Blush Brush,” Anete says.
“Finally, for the lips, I used two shades of Rose Inc Satin Lip Rich Refillable Lipstick,” she says. “I lined my lips with the shade Demure and added a touch of Poetic in the center of my lips. This technique adds more depth and dimension that can visually make the lips appear fuller.”
The lip colors were also strategic. “The contrast between the cool, blush-toned Demure and the muted coral Poetic shades did this trick,” she explains. “Not only because the shades are different in color, but one is cooler and the other one is warmer which adds an extra contrast.”
