A wet eye look that works with any color

A wet eye look that works with any color

No makeup look makes quite the same statement as brightly colored eyeshadow with a slick finish. "I think most people are afraid of trying this kind of look, but it's so easy to pull off," says Kate Synnott, the makeup artist who created this crimson-and-copper eye. "Even if you think red isn’t for you, you can do this with any color." Yes, she admits, adding gloss will likely make eyeshadow pigments migrate over time, but run with it and embrace its inherent nature. She advises: "Even messy, this look still is amazing." Read on to learn how she did it.

Giorgio Armani Beauty Luminous Silk foundation provided an even canvas, and Synnott applied Clé de Peau Correcteur Visage concealer to reduce redness in the skin. She sculpted cheeks with Tom Ford Shade & Illuminate in Scintillate, amplifying the tawny tones with Hourglass Ambient Lighting Bronzer in Radiant Bronze Light. That sheen you see lighting up cheeks? It's Marc Jacobs All-Over Foil Luminizer dusted along the cheekbones.

First, Synnott framed the eyes by attending to brows. Hourglass Arch Brow Micro Sculpting Pencil filled in the brows, while brushing them upward with Hourglass Arch Brow Volumizing Fiber Gel locked them in place. Synnott lined top and bottom lashes with MAC Eye Kohl in Teddy, a rich copper color. To create the intense red, Synnott buffed Chanel Ombre Premiere Longwear Powder Eyeshadow in Desert Rouge onto the lid, gently bringing the color upward above the crease before slicking  Kevyn Aucoin Eye Gloss on for the wet-look finish. Two coats of mascara lengthened and defined lashes.

MAC Matte Lipstick in Honeylove, a pale rosy beige, provided a toned-down lip to balance the intensity of the eye color.

Now see the look in motion.
