'90s supermodel makeup: the guide
For this week’s premiere of The Meg, Rosie was feeling ’90s glamour. Take, for instance, the silhouette of her Stella McCartney gown and its subtle nod to Elizabeth Hurley’s Versace safety-pin dress. Makeup, too, took a soft cue from photographs of Dutch supermodel Karen Mulder. To create a modern take on the decade, makeup artist Patrick Ta gave RHW a warm brown smoky eye and expertly contoured cheeks. Here, he breaks down how to re-create this face in your own mirror.
SKIN
Using a sponge, apply La Mer The Soft Fluid Foundation to the center of the face, blending outwards. Next, using La Mer The Concealer, apply under the eyes, down the bridge of the nose, and anywhere else that needs brightening. Blend with a sponge.
CONTOUR
Use Tom Ford Shade and Illuminate to carve out the cheekbones and sharpen the jawline.
POWDER
Apply Giorgio Armani Beauty Micro-fil Translucent Powder under the eyes and in the center of the face. Make sure to leave the outer areas glowing.
BLUSH
Apply Rosie for Autograph Cream Blush in Camisole Blush to the apples of the cheeks, blending into the contour.
HIGHLIGHT
Apply YSL Couture Highlight in Or Pearl to the top of the cheekbones, bridge of the nose, inner corner of the eye, and Cupid’s bow.
EYES
This look uses the Maybelline Soda Pop Palette, out in September. To create the base color for the smoky eye, apply the Root Beer shade (a deep brown) starting at the root and blending upward onto the lid. Next, take Cola Float (a warmer, medium brown) and lightly apply to the outer edge of Root Beer to help diffuse the color, blending into the crease. Finally, using the same two shadows, apply along the lower lash line.
BROWS
Use YSL Dessin des Sourcils to fill in any sparse areas. Brush hairs up, then keep them in place using YSL Couture Brow Gel.
LASHES
Apply Maybeline Volum’ Express The Falsies Mascara, coating both your upper and lower lashes
LIPS
Apply Maybelline Super Stay Matte Ink Lip Color in Loyalist all over the lips.
